Abrasive
Aside from its general breaking and usage behaviour during cutting+grinding processes the correct selection of the abrasive depends on the workability of the material.
Schwarzhaupt abrasive grinding wheels are produced from both corundum and silicium carbide.
Corundum
Corundum is produced from the mineral bauxite through an electro-thermal melt process. Inherent properties are great hardness and endurance. This is the most frequent abrasive.
Cutting+grinding wheels produced from this are utilised for the working of low and high alloyed steels, metallic materials of medium and high tensile strength. Corundum is particularly suitable for high performance cutting.
Silicium carbide
Silicium carbide is melted down from glass sand and petroleum coke in electric furnaces at a temperature of 2,100 degrees. To facilitate the reaction process sodium chloride and saw dust are added to this mixture.
As an abrasive of particular hardness and brittleness with a Mohs' hardness of about 9.5 Silicium is used for the abrasive cutting+grinding of metallic and non-metallic materials of low tensile strength, like grey cast iron, brass, bronze, aluminium, glass and organic, mineral and ceramic tools. |
